BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Thursday joined fifteen other Heads of State by signing a Golden Ball, committing himself to HIV prevention.

The signing ceremony took place at Sanjika palace in Blantyre witnessed by Ghanaian Football Team Captain Asamoah Gyan who is the Ambassador for the iniative.

Gyan is in the country to support the global ‘protect the goal’ campaign which is among a series of activities the National Aids Commission (NAC), UNAIDS and their partners are undertaking to reinvigorate HIV prevention in Malawi.

The ministry of youth and sports Development is facilitating the event in partnership with the Joint United Nations Team on HIV, NAC, and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

The main private sector sponsors are Airtel and Standard Bank.

‘Protect the Goal’ campaign was launched to use football as a platform to scale up access to HIV information and services among youth, apart from mobilizing young people to commit to HIV prevention.

In Malawi, the campaign was launched in late 2013.
