MALAWITOURISM.COM: Overlooking the still waters of Makata Stream, set amongst the butterfly and bird filled brachystegia trees, Dzalanyama Forest House has long been seen as a tranquil haven of Central Malawi. For the more active of visitors, the lodge also offers mapped out hiking and cycling trails for visitors to explore first hand the majestic and sprawling Malawian landscape.
Situated close to bustling Lilongwe and only 2 hours from the airport, the lodges’ serene 4 bedrooms offer self-catering accommodation with a beautiful front deck, offering the perfect place for an al fresco lunch. In addition to this, the lodge will soon be offering guests an alternative form of accommodation, with two brand new chalets with full-catered service due to be completed by October 20th. The chalets offer double (or twin) en suite accommodation as well as being thatched and tented, built on platforms some 4m above ground level, offering superb views of the surrounding area, in particular the many special Miombo bird species found and seen exclusively in the tree canopy of this area.
The main house itself has also seen a number of refurbishments, including solar lighting fitted into all rooms, complete new soft furnishings, brand new bedding, curtains and carpets as well as a complete repaints, both inside and out. All this refurbishment has now seen the lodges’ capacity increase to 12 people, meaning it still remains the perfect pre or post safari stopover, as well as a visit in its own right.
