A woman from Mzimba has died by hanging herself after suspecting her husband of having an affair with a woman he appears to have just met.
According to reports in the area the deceased died instantly.
Oliva Qumayo aged 49 of T/A Mmbelwa hanged herself when she saw her husband who was coming from grazing family goats chatting with a woman who she suspected of cheating with her husband.
Sources at Mzimba Police confirmed to The Maravi Post reporter saying that Oliva Qumayo thought that the two were in relationship.
“According to our investigations the husband of the deceased was coming from grazing goats, on his way back home he met a certain woman and they started chatting. The deceased found them and she suspected that they were in love affair and later the deceased left the place and went to the nearby bush where she hanged herself in a tree. Postmortem conducted at the scene with medical personnel confirmed that death was due to strangulation.” Said Mzimba Police.
Police have since counseled that people should discuss all family issues amicably before taking other decisions like suicide.
Mzimba is becoming famous with stories of hanging. However no reasons have been attributed to many of the cases so far.
