LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawians seem to be duped with fake promises Tonse Alliance made to prior to June 23, 2020 Presidential elections.
This follows President Lazarus Chakwera boldly telling Malawians in Parliament on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 that duty free week and MK14,000 passport was part of the UTM manifesto in the May 21, 2019 Presidential Elections.
Consequently, Chakwera says passport promises were not his brain child but UTM through Dr Saulos Chilima therefore it will be hard for his administration to implement them under his High- Five philosophy which bind on transparency amongst others.
President Chakwera was responding to a question posed by opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Martha Lunji.
He says when the MCP and UTM combined forces, they combined only the promises that were common and put them as priorities.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader adds now that they are in government, they are looking at how best to implement the promises that were unique to each party.
He says government will notify Malawians on when it would roll out the unique promises, including the duty free week and the K14,000 passport.
Chakwera says he will notify the country if possible that such promises shall taken on board.
The Malawi leader added that when taking over the government he did not know that DPP government had some toxic contract agreements with some contractors and this has made his government to face troubled waters in implementing it’s promises.
Chilima promised Malawians a lot of good things like mega farms, free duty week, driving licence reduced prices amongst others but so far the government has abandoned all that.
Malawians are yet to reaction following Chakwera clear map of his Tonse government agenda in the next four years.
