LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-One of the country’s most talented gospel musician of this generation George Mkandawire has died.
The Maravi Post understands that Mkandawire died in Zambia where he was currently residing but the cause of his death is not yet known.
The late Mkandawire’s younger brother Charles who is based in Cape Town, South Africa told the Nation Online that the family is also shocked to hear of George’s passing.
“We talked on Friday and he didn’t indicate in any way that he was sick. He was sharing with me updates on his upcoming single projects that he did under the Major 1 Records recently, ” he said.
Charles said details about the burial arrangements will be communicated in due course but indicated that vigil will be held in Ndirande, Blantyre where George’s parents stay.
George, who was born in 1974, hailed from Nkombezi village in Rumphi district. The artist rose to stardom in the early 2000s after releasing albums such as Ulendo.
Lately, he went into a music hibernation only to resurface last year with news that he had signed for Major 1 Records which is owned by Prophet Shephard Bushiri.
