Mzuzu market vendors accuse city council for filth around the market

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Vendors at Mzuzu City Market have lashed at Mzuzu City Council for failing to remove the bin full of garbage that has overstayed at the market; despite paying city rates.

According to the Chairperson of the vendors, Andrew Chatha, the city council is failing in its duties of keeping the market clean.

“We, as vendors, want the council to remove the garbage, which is now smelling badly because they force us to pay market fees so that they can use it to make our market a conducive environment for business, ” said Chatha.

However, Mzuzu City Council Spokesperson, Macdonald Gondwe, said they are aware of the pathetic situation of the bin at the market and they are doing all they can to empty it as per their tradition.

“Much as they are complaining about the bin being full of gabbage, they also have to be responsible by keeping the city clean. It is a responsibility of all of us to care for our market,” Gondwe said.

Most market places in the country have no proper mechanisms when it comes to management of garbage.
