LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Second Vice President Enoch Chihana has left the country for South Africa’s private.

Chihana’s Press Secretary Davie Gadama confirmed his boss’ trip but did not give more details.

Gadama however referred The Maravi Post to Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) for more details on Chihana’s trip.

Although OPC has not responded yet, sources within the Capital Hill, told The Maravi Post this evening that Chihana has sponsored the trip himself.

According to the sources, Malawi government has only supported his two security personnel on the South African’s private trip amid austerity measures.

“The second Veep is indeed outside the country for South Africa’s private trip which will take about 10 days.

“President Peter Mutharika has approved Chihana’s trip as required amid austerity measures, government is implementing currently”, adds the source.

This is the first private trip Chihana has made after appointed as Second Vice President since October 2025.
