BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of irrigation and Water Development Charles Mchacha has hailed President Professor Peter Mutharika for his desire to develop irrigation farming in the country.
Mchacha said this in reaction to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s State of the Nation Address – SONA of 2020-2021 budget meeting in parliament.
In the recorded Address amid COVID-19 measures, President Mutharika said his government intends to revamp irrigation farming through various measures including the Shire Valley Transformation Program currently underway in Chikwawa.
Reacting to the SONA which also highlighted a number of programs that have been already implemented in the financial year ending in June, Mchacha said the projects have registered huge impact in a number of districts.
“I can confidently say that the projects have transformed lives of many Malawians regardless of political affiliation,” Mchacha said.
The Irrigation and water Development minister further added that president Mutharika administration apart from developing irrigation sectorhis government has also put in place various interventions of boosting water sector.
“In the next financial year government of Professor Mutharika is expected to rehabilitate close to five hundred boreholes in all drought affected areas due to Cyclone ldai,” he adds.
Mchacha said apart from rehabilitating boreholes,the 2020/2021 financial year will see the construction of new water supply from Shire River under Blantyre Water board.
Members of parliament are expected to start commenting on the president Mutharika’s state of National Address from Monday, June 8 to Friday, June 12, 2020.
