MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-In what my be described as sheer politicking, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, has expressed a concern with government’s effort in fight against Covid 19.

Speaking on Thursday when he was donating medical equipment at Nkhoma Hospital in Lilongwe, the MCP leader said there is need for government to scale up effort and rid off its laxity in the fight against the disease.

“I have been at this stage where we only have few centres, two in Blantyre and one in Lilongwe with none up north. But yet we are surrounded by complaints that have reported cases. As you can tell, that’s just one example, but we are ill prepared,” Chakwera said.

This was not the first time the former leader of opposition made a donation of medical equipment to a hospital within Lilongwe. Last week, Dr Chakwera also donated similar equipment at other hospitals in the Capital City.

Ironically, Dr Chakwera who says there is no any Covid 19 testing centre in the Northern Region of the country, has not taken any steps to make similar donations at any hospitals or health centre in the said region in preparation for the fight against the killer disease.

By far, Malawi has registered eight positive cases of Covid 19 with one death in Blantyre.

The disease has claimed over 70 thousand lives all over the world.
