The Malawi Government through the Department of Human Resource in the Ministry of Health has with immediate effect banned use of month to month contract for the Health workers.
The initiative was aimed at helping hospitals to have additional members of experienced staff since Malawi as a country already experiences shortage of health workers such as nurses, midwives, laboratory technicians, dentists and other health workers.
According to the circular Reference Number PER 2/23 signed by Macphail Magwira, who is Principal Secreatry in the Ministry of Health, the last day of temporary month to month contract is 30 June, 2016.
Magwira said the period under review will not attract any gratuity since the officials already received their money.
No reasons have been given for the decision by the ministry but some people have been commenting that Government has no money to run those programmes.
The development is expected to bring pressure on health workers in Malawi.
