Mtambo is likely to face authority’s rough  when advancing his political considering that he was under UN Human Rights face

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Is this manifestation of fools’ day or real decision what the country’s Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson Timothy Mtambo announced leaving the grouping to start a revolution movement.

Mtambo told the news conference on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in the capital Lilongwe that his main agendum is to change the current political leadership of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) with the hope of ushering Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM political alliance into power.

The former HRDC leader therefore disclosed the formation of movement known as Citizen For Transformation (CFT), movement to advance his political agenda.

Mtambo even declared to be the Commander-In-Chief of the movement.

As much as Mtambo consulted locally and internationally according to the presser he held, the decision is ill-timed and total betrayal to Malawians.

The decision to join front politics, amid Malawi’s political turmoil and human right abuses, is Mtambo‘s failure.

Why ill-timed?

Human right body such as of HRDC has been instrument on the calls for embattled Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah to resign for mismanaging the May 21, 2019 polls that even the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) faulted her and the commission on the same.

Mtambo got much praise from the public and international audience for spearheading national governance course through HRDC.

As freedom and human rights fighter, he was no need for him to justify his course for the nation through front politics.

See, human right platform gave Mtambo faithful touch addressing national issues to authority, President Peter Mutharika and his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

This is the time Mtambo could continue advancing good governance through HRDC with non-partisan eye.

He was supposed to fight till the end the fight for MEC to be reckoned body.

His decision will vindicate President Mutharika ascension that Mtambo was leading a “terrorist group” through demonstrations.

Now, with fresh presidential elections a head Mutharika and his DPP will score political mirage to whoever Mtambo will align to, that’s UTMCP alliance.

Mtambo is not supposed to formulate another grouping to justify his good course for the nation. The popularity Mtambo got through HRDC is not a guarantee to political prowls.

Malawi has enough already of political figures wanting the nation to change for the better.

Mtambo is likely to face authority’s rough  when advancing his political considering that he was under UN Human Rights face.

Why total betrayal?

HRDC is a face of Malawians on human rights abuses, whose leadership was Mtambo, Gift Trapence and among others.

What could be the future of and legacy of HRDC to the public? Not that Mtambo is the only one to drive the grouping but the manner in which he has dumped the body.

Some Malawians who were behind Mtambo leading HRDC during demos for Ansah to resign are now puzzled and betrayed over his decision.

HRDC has been put in a awkward position of its mandate on human rights agenda. It will not have the same power as it used to be. Trust has been lost.

Upheaval ahead

One huge mistake Mtambo will live to regret. This organization has no privileged powers as those conferred on the organization he is ditching.

His movement is similar to moving from politically propagating for a war to enrolling for a military position that will see him face the actual battle on the ground.

What that has is that you are no longer effecting and enlisting more fighters to actually limiting oneself to one battle front and probably get caught by either a stray or aimed bullet.

He has no power to fight Jane Ansah and MEC at the moment. If he does that he will meet a different set of laws as pertaining to the organization he now will be running.

However, Mtambo has a different view for his decision. Lets give him time for the new political venture.
