Mutharika calls for prayer amid prolonged dry spells

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika, has called on Malawians to join hands in prayer for continued good rains to ensure a bumper harvest and to end the prolonged dry spells affecting parts of the country.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday evening and signed by Presidential Press Secretary Cathy Maulidi says The Malawi leader ths calling upon people to draw inspiration from both the Bible and the Qur’an.

“As in 2 Chronicles 7:14 states: “If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land,” reads the statement in part.

Maulidi adds,” Likewise, the Holy Qur’an in Surah Nuh (71:10-12) encourages: “Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.

“He will send rain from the sky upon you in continuing showers and provide you with wealth and children, and will provide you with gardens and rivers”.

Maulidi therefore said faith leaders are invited to lead the special prayers on any day of their choice from Friday, February 6, 2026, to Sunday, 8th February 2026.
