MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika on Friday, June 19, 2020 promised Mzuzu residents that after retiring in 2025 will stay in the city.
He was addressing hundreds of people gathered at Mzuzu shoprite roundabout to see Peter Mutharika entering Mzuzu.
Mutharika started his speech by apologising to the people of Mzuzu for taking long time without visiting them which he said it was
due to fear of demostrations which took place most of the times in the city.
“Demostations stopped me to come here, people were also saying that there is no DPP in the north butl have realised today that it was a total lie. l won the 2019 election but the opposition ambushed me through the court but on 23 May, l will show them (ndiwaonetsa nyekhwe)”said Muthalika.
Mutharikas added that in the 2020/2021 budget,the government is ready to transform this country in terms of education,agriculture ,infrastructure and more.
In terms of education the president said that the DPP goverment has ended the quarter systems in Malawi ,which he claims that it was started by MCP in 1987and also promised that in five years time his government will finish building Mombera university in Mzimba.
Mutharika who took over power from Joyce Banda concluded by promising people in Mzuzu that in 2025 when he retires from politics he is going to stay in Mzuzu for six months to show the love he has to people from the north.
In his welcoming remarks Japie who spoke on behalf of Goodal Gondwe said that real judges will be seen on Tuesday 23,June 2020.
The time Mutharika was talking to the multitude at Mzimba boma, his counterpart Saulos Chilima, the presidential runningmate for Tonse alliance also had whisle stop tours at Embangweni, prepairing for the main rally at Mzimba boma the same afternoon.
Malawi is expected to hold fresh presidential election on Tuesday 23 June 2020, following court nullification of the May 2019 election.
