Frank Mwenefumbo has declared that he will support the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM alliance, saying doing so will help the alliance amass more votes from the northern region of the country.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with one of the media houses in the country, Mwenefumbo said, it is quite pathetic that for the past six years, Malawi has not registered any tangible development because of poor political leadership.
Mwenefumbo, who was the running mate for United Democratic Front (UDF) presidential candidate, Atupele Muluzi, in the May, 2019 tripartite elections, stressed that he will mobilise support from over 80 percent of Malawians in the north to rally behind the Tonse alliance, because Dr Lazarus Chakwera and his running mate, Dr Saulos Chilima, are visionary leaders who will develop and unite Malawi in all the regions.
The former parliamentarian for Karonga Central Constituency, said it is very appalling to notice that while Malawi boasts of sound diplomatic relationships with neighbouring Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania; Malawians themselves are at tribal and regional wars because the current political leadership is fueling political vendetta.
Mwenefumbo retaliated that his support for the MCP-UTM alliance is for the good of all Malawians; particularly those in the rural areas of the country, so that they too should reap sweet fruits of a better political leadership than the current one.
Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo is a renowned political heavyweight who once served as a cabinet minister and a regional governor for the north during Bingu Wa Mutharika’s second term. He once vied for presidency for Alliance for Democracy (Aford) in the run up to 2019 tripartite elections, but later threw in his towel and supported Atupele Muluzi as his running mate.
