LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Ntchisi North Constituency legislator Arnod Kadzanja on Saturday, March 5, 2022, launched tree planting season.
Speaking after the launch at Mawiri Community Day Secondary School, T/A Chiooko, Malomo, Kadzanja hailed the chiefs and their subjects for the cooperation shown towards the exercise.
He appealed to people in the area to continue with the exercise with an aim of replenishing the lost vegetation.
During the launch, Kadzanja along with others planted about 2,000 seedlings, adding that the target is to plant at least 110,000 tree seedlings across the constituency.
The legislator asked the school going children to take the responsibility of taking care of already planted trees.
Former players and legends like Kinnah Phiri, Young Chimodzi,Chancy Vinny Gondwe,Joel Chipofya,Franco Ndawa,Leo Mpulula,Gilbert Chirwa just to name a few joined the exercise under J.K productions.
Later after planting the trees, the Football legends played a football match against Mpalo select at Mawiri Community Day Secondary School ground in which they won by two goals to one (1-2) coming from behind. Geresom Banda scored for Mpalo Select at 30th minute in the first half.
First half ended Mpalo Select narrowly leading by a goal. Second half Former Players and Legends made substitutions which paid dividend.
They managed to score two goals through Joel Chipofya at 60th, and 77th respectively with James Kaniche getting his penalty saved.
Jim Kalua, director of J.K Productions, described the encounter as tough adding that Mpalo Select gave them a good run especially in the first half but hailed his charges for the fighting spirit to win the game in the second half.
Emmanuel Chimombo, the Primary Education Advisor for Mpalo Zone, described the movement as a welcome development adding that trees are very important to human beings as they provide firewood, Oxygen and beautify the surrounding.
He also urged school zonse to plant more trees and take good care of them to recover the lost vegetation.
