BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A group known as Pastors and Society has thrown its support behind United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dalitso Kabambe as their preferred candidate for the September 16 elections.
In an endorsement letter seen by this publication, the group’s secretary, Blessings Nkhata, says the country’s current economic struggles require a leader with a strong background in economics.
Nkhata emphasizes that Kabambe’s experience as a former budget director makes him well-equipped to handle the country’s financial challenges.
Additionally, Nkhata points out that Kabambe’s tenure as Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor has given him valuable connections with international figures who could potentially support Malawi’s development.
Recently, Kabambe who became the UTM president in November last year, outlined a comprehensive plan to revolutionize the country’s agricultural sector.
He said dubbed the ‘3rd Revolution in Agriculture’, the initiative aims to transform the sector from subsistence farming to a high-tech, high-value industry.
Kabambe said the plan proposes a MK 500 billion annual investment in agriculture and value-addition, driving economic growth and improving GDP.
The economic genius said the vision of the plan focuses on ‘Smart Farming for Greater Yields’ through modernized farming techniques, advanced seed varieties, precision land use, and digital technologies.
Said Kabambe,”The plan is centered on value-addition, aiming to establish agro-processing zones across the country, produce finished goods including tomato paste, cooking oil, and juice domestically, and build industries from by-products.
“This will create thousands of new jobs in transport, packaging, marketing, and agro-industries, and empower women and youth through agribusiness financing and training.
“The goal is to make agriculture the backbone of Malawi’s economic freedom, driving industrial growth and wealth creation.”
