President Chakwera dissolves cabinet amid Malawians discontent with Tonse admin: Chizuma warned

Embattled Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday, January 24, 2022, dissolved his cabinet after promising to do so more than a year ago, amid discontent of his Tonse administration just two years in power.

The Cabinet dissolve comes hours after Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) told President Lazarus Chakwera to reshuffle and trim his it to show that he appreciates that Malawian’s sufferings.

Addressing the nation, Lazarus Chakwera disclosed that the new cabinet will be in place in two days’ time singling out that former Lands minister Kezzie Msukwa is to be excluded over corrupt charges on his head.

The President was dismayed with the conduct of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma over the leaked audio conversation.

President Lazarus Chakwera says people who might have tricked Martha Chizuma to that recording better thing again if they thought the President would fire her.

He says the people might have managed to undermine the fight against corruption by reaching to trick Chizuma but will not manage to reach all systems including his office.

However, Chakwera has warned those who leaked the audio that, if they thought this audio will frustrate Chakwera’s and Chizuma’s determination to fighting corruption, they have to think again.

He says he will not move to fire her because he well knows that people behind the matter want government to give up in fighting corruption. Malawians are skeptical however that he did not approve the plans originally. They suspect he changed his tune when he saw how un-popular Many Malawians received the news.

President Chakwera says he is against the 60-day amnesty Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda announced and has since ordered that it is stopped.

He adds he has directed Justice Minister Titus Mvalo to engage the AG on the matter.

The move also follows a serious public backlash the decision received with some quarters suspecting the current leadership was bent at shielding some senior politicians and government officials.

-Earlier today the president held a meeting with Martha Chizuma on which some of the issues tabled was the leaked conversation of Martha Chizuma of which Chizuma accepted to be hers.

-H.E. believes strongly the conduct was not right

-Every muscle of contents of the leaked audio has been mentioned by the president

-The president has determined to keep a close eye towards the ACB office from now so that anything reckless should happen no more

-He has been the most vocal advocate in support of ACB

-He has always supported the ACB office.

-He has always made sure ACB receives enough funding

-To put Malawi first, H.E. has dissolved his cabinet with immediate effect from today.

-New cabinet shall be released in two days to come, and it shall not include the minister of land, Kenzie Msukwa, who is currently answering corruption charges at court

-H.E. does not support the offer of amnesty as presented by the attorney general, proper method needs to be followed first (hence, has asked Attorney General to reverse the idea)

-Winning the fight against corruption depends on all of us not only ACB office, contrary to what the British government says

-Let’s always have interest to question the source of every money that we receive from any sponsor before using it

You all must be on your guard (H.E. quoted scriptures from the bible, 1st Corinthians 16vs13 )
