LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The system has changed. There is a new boss in town. A new way of steering the ship has started.
People are filled with so many questions. So many conclusions being made. That is normal knowing that is how Malawians behave. But, there is a question that remains amidst all these; what role are youths playing in fostering this change, a new Malawi?
The message from the new boss was clear. Work hard! Work hard! Work hard! Work smart! Opportunities will be given but that alone will not guarantee an easy ride. Our hard work will be required if we need to see things changing.
What good will the speech for change be if we will continue to work as lazily as before?
What good will the government’s efforts be if our input will continue to be less than what we can possibly do? It’s time to realise the potential that we possess as Malawian Youths.
Make deliberate efforts to see things happening for the better. Putting in more energy and resources in our work force than we have ever done.
The low-cost fertilisers will be provided. But those fertilisers will mean nothing if our mindset is still limited to subsistence usage.
There is a lot we can achieve in farming. But, for that to happen, it will require us taking the risk of investing in the farm business for more yields.
We can till the land like never before and realise profits out of it. Getting rid of the idea that farming is for the village-folk and replacing such a mindset with an entrepreneurial view.
Let us get organised. Let us gang ourselves and achieve greater yields collectively.
It is already remarkable in the way youths these days have ventured into series of businesses. Youths are creating opportunities for themselves as well as others. Our little efforts have already done us a great deal.
However, there has also been times when youths have collected loans from the government only to disappear in the end. The money going into waste.
A better Malawi is requiring us to commit our heart and soul into the little things that we venture into. No more leaving things undone. The government loans allocated will mean nothing if they are not put to good use.
For that change to come to reality, we need to put all our energy and resources together. Creating new ideas of doing things.
There are some people who are gifted with coming up with beautiful ideas. And such people fail to put them into practice. These are ideas which one can take up and become a fat income generating source.
Creating youth groups which can help youths access such ideas would help an idle person out there who is lost and wondering what to do with his or her life.
A youth today need not be a youth who just sits around and watches as things go south. A youth of today need to speak out when things are not going well.
Gone are the days when we would wait for things to turn ugly and then say we saw it coming.
There is need to keep checks and balances to see how things are being run in our country. Are the policies being put in place favourable and considerate to all?
Are the government measures on emerging issues conducive enough to tackle the problems we are facing? A youth of today needs to keep an open eye and be ready to take action when need be.
This is an opportunity to rebuild. An opportunity to rise up, take action and see a better Malawi A youth of today needs not sit idle and wait for opportunities avail themselves.
A better Malawi requires our collective effort. Let us be vigilant enough for this change to come our way.
Let us be the change we want Malawi to be! One Malawi, one nation! Together, we can!
