BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In the heart of Malawi’s political arena, tensions run high as President Lazarus Chakwera and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) find themselves faced with an unexpected threat – the looming return of Peter Mutharika, poised to claim victory in the upcoming elections.
With sleepless nights plaguing him, Chakwera takes drastic measures to secure his position as Malawi’s leader.
Sending former Democratic Progress Party (DPP) members to push a bill aimed at disqualifying Mutharika from running due to his age, Chakwera’s desperation is laid bare. Despite being seen as Malawi’s beacon of hope, he fears Mutharika’s potential comeback.
To further solidify his stance, Chakwera manipulates parliamentary dynamics by using Gotani Hara to keep Kondwani Nankhumwa as the opposition leader, despite his expulsion from the DPP.
This move leads to Catherine flagrantly flouting and breaking parliamentary standing orders in a bid to maintain the delicate balance of power.
As Malawi braces for a political storm, Chakwera must navigate treacherous waters to safeguard his presidency against the shadows of Mutharika’s impending resurgence.
Knowing that Chakwera and his MCP, Tonse Alliance government failure to meet Malawians expectations four years in power, Mutharika’s comeback is big threat for their lies to continue at State House beyond 2025.
Chakwera knows that his agenda for Malawi has failed miserably.
Using COVID-19, Russia-Ukraine War, Cyclone Freedy, Cholera, dry spells will not convince locals to give Chakwera another term.
Malawians what expected from Chakwera is to offer affordable fertilizer, fuel, water, electricity, availability of drugs in public hospital.
What will Chakwera say to convince locals for second term? Mutharika gets advantage as before 2020, life on basic needs was accessible and cheaply only political tension that MCP, and embattled Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) advanced.
