Neno residents suffer

One of the vehicles being used for road construction in Neno plunged into a ditch today due to the poor condition of the road, worsened by ongoing rainfall in the area.

An eyewitness reported that the vehicle was attempting to avoid a man carrying firewood on his motorcycle when the accident occurred.

Just last week, an ambulance carrying a patient struggled to navigate the same road because of excessive mud caused by ongoing road grading activities meant to prepare the surface for tarring.

Inside that ambulance was a patient being transferred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

Residents of Neno continue to lament the poor state of transportation as the road remains untarred, a situation that has allowed some business people to take advantage by inflating the prices of goods.

Additionally, fares for minibuses and motorcycle taxis have surged significantly, adding further strain to already burdened residents.
