NTCHISI (MaraviPost)—Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 67-year-old man for attempting to commit suicide.
The incident happened on the night of June 21 2016 at Chimaneni Village. Police have identified the suspect as Chikwawe Binalisoni of Chimaneni Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi, who burnt his own house in order to kill himself.
Ntchisi police spokesman Gladson M’bumpha said the suspect is alleged to have taken beer and decided to set his house on fire when he returned from a drinking spree. This was after he had quarreled with his wife on June 20 2016.
The suspect was rescued from the house by his son Maxwell Chimaneni and other people in the village and in the process kitchen utensils, maize and clothes were burnt to ashes.
Upon interrogations, the suspect admitted to have burnt the house
because his wife had been denying him marital sex for six months and he has been selling some farm produce so that he use the money for buying beer and forget his worries.
