A South African man in KwaZulu-Natal has been killed in a mob assault after he allegedly set ablaze a house killing 6-year-old boy.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the deceased suspect who’s the ex-boyfriend of the child’s mother allegedly started the fire after an argument with the current boyfriend of the mother.
The fire started around 23:00 in the Tandani area in Verulam burning the little boy to ashes and police discovered the body of the 6-year-old beyond recognition.
News24 reported that angry mob located the ex-boyfriend the next day following the incident and allegedly set him alight. He sustained burn wounds and was declared dead at the scene.
Police said two cases of murder and arson were opened at the Verulam police station following the tragedy pending further investigation.
Meanwhile, Police has urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and let police continue doing their job by investigating and arresting the suspects involved in criminal activities.
