BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers board member Tiya Somba Banda has resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2025.
The resignation comes as the team prepares to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup, and Somba Banda’s role as CAF General Coordinator could have created a conflict of interest.
According to Wanderers board secretary Chancy Gondwe, Somba Banda’s resignation was necessary to ensure the integrity and fairness of the competition.
“To ensure the integrity and fairness of the competition, it was necessary for Mr. Tiya Somba Banda to step down from his position on the Wanderers board,” Gondwe confirmed in a statement.
Somba Banda was appointed to the Wanderers board earlier this year as part of a new leadership team led by President Thomson Mpinganjira.
The team has undergone significant changes, including the appointment of new directors, in a bid to make Mighty Wanderers mighty again.
The new board, which was appointed in February 2024, comprised notable figures, including Somba Banda, Chancy Gondwe, Limbani Magomero, Mervis Mangulenje, Madalitso Kakota Musa, Dr. Andrex Kalinde, David Kanyenda, and Christopher Gondwe.
Somba Banda’s resignation marks a significant development in the team’s leadership.
