BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A concerned Malawian citizen has issued an urgent call to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), demanding transparency and decisive action over long-standing corruption allegations against Fomer Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola.

The complaint, first submitted through two formal letters on May 23 and May 30, 2024, accuses the official of corruption and abuse of office. However, nearly one year and nine months later, the matter reportedly remains unresolved.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Director General of the Anti Corruption Bureau, the whistleblower, Edwards Kambanje, expressed frustration over what he describes as prolonged inaction by the graft busting body.

According to Kambanje, despite the gravity of the allegations and the letters having been hand delivered to the ACB offices in Blantyre, there has been no visible progress in the investigation.

He claims Simplex Chithyola has neither been summoned for questioning nor has the Bureau provided any public update regarding the status of the case.

The whistleblower argues that the delay risks eroding public trust in the institution mandated to combat corruption in Malawi.

He says the silence surrounding the case has created doubt about the Bureau’s commitment to upholding accountability and transparency.

Kambanje further stresses that the ACB’s constitutional mandate is clear to investigate and take action against individuals suspected of engaging in corrupt practices.

He insists that failure to act decisively sends a negative signal to the public and weakens the fight against corruption.

He has since urged the Bureau to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and to demonstrate its dedication to justice by taking concrete steps in the investigation.

The concerned citizen is demanding an official response within 14 days, outlining the actions the ACB intends to take regarding the allegations.

The case now places renewed scrutiny on the Anti Corruption Bureau’s handling of corruption related complaints, as Malawians continue to call for stronger enforcement of accountability measures in public office.
