ZOMBA-(MaraviPost)-A 35-year-old Donex Kupila in Zomba is under police custody for allegedly murdering his former wife over land ownership dispute.
Zomba Police Station spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano identified the deceased as Doreen Charles aged 36 from the same district.
Sipiliano said that the two separated a few years ago due to marital challenges which were beyond their control.
The police publicist explained that the two divorced through the courts where, in its judgment, the court ordered that land which the two had be offered to the children who were under the woman’s custody.
This however did not go well with the suspect who, early this month, schemed to visit the former wife at night and beat her to death.
“The suspect later picked the victim’s body and dumped it in a rice field near Thondwe River. After the discovery of the body, villagers reported the incident to police who later arrested Kupila. But the body was found in a decomposed state,” explained Sipiliano.
“Postmortem results revealed that the death was due to head injuries. The suspect remains in police custody waiting for murder trial contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code. We are therefore appealing to the general public to avoid taking the law into their own hands,” urges Sipiliano.
Both the suspect and deceased hail from Ngwangwanya village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mwambo in Zomba district.
