Abida Sidik Mia.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Abida Mia, who is Chikwawa Nkombezi Member of Parliament and wife to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President Sidik Mia,  has urged people in the lower shire to vote for Tonse Alliance torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera and his running mate Saulos Chilima.

Mia made the appeal when she distributed relief maize in her constituency where she also addressed a rally.

She said it is only Tonse Alliance Torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera who can bring about meaningful change.

She added that people in the area have for long been left out of development initiatives as if they do not have a government.

“If you really need development, in terms of infrastructure, maize, electricity, schools, medicines, then you should vote for Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima,” Mia said as quoted by Times.

A member of the community, Mathews Zambezi said they are ready to see meaningful change, adding that already, through the initiative of Mia, most projects in the area which were abandoned have been completed and new projects are taking shape.

“We have seen seven locations where Under five clinics have started being constructed, a hospital at Therere, police units in three areas and she is also helping us with relief food,” Zambezi explained.

Recently, her husband Sidik also stormed the region making a case for an alliance of MCP and UTM with Lazarus Chakwera as torchbearer.

He said the Tonse alliance is the only hope for better Malawi saying the current leadership is clueless of how Malawians can be emancipated from the chains of abject poverty.

“People are eager to see change in this country. So as one of the patriotic citizens, I sacrificed my position to pave way for the combination of Chakwera and Chilima in the forthcoming election because that is the sure way of bringing change in the country.

“I am ready to work with Chakwera and Chilima to develop Malawi. I have closely known Dr Lazarus Chakwera and, believe you me, he will be the best President Malawi has ever had,” said Mia.

Sidik Mia was Chakwera’s running mate in the botched 2019 election but he was dropped after MCP went into an alliance with UTM and other eight political parties.

Malawians will go to vote in a fresh president election Tuesday next week after the Constitution Court nullified the 2019 presidential election due to widespread irregularities.
