Timothy Mtambo: CFT leader

Citizen for Transformation (CFT) has demanded immediate removal of president peter Mutharika and dismissal of Malawi Electoral Commision (MEC) chairperson Justice Jane Ansah following irregularities in the registration process for the upcoming fresh presidential elections.

CFT disclosed this in a statement that was issued on Tuesday, 5 May, 2020.

In the statement, CFT revealed that president Mutharika and his DPP have been interfering with the electoral system from NRB to MEC out of desperation to remain in power.

“We agree with what our Comrades in AFORD once said about having a National Governing Council (NGC).

In the light of this lawlessness and State-organized criminal syndicate against our democracy, CFT suggests an immediate removal of President Mutharika through all possible Constitutional avenues including, but not limited to, impeachment,” reads part of the statement.

According to statement, CFT has said DPP and MEC have been registering underage children to use their biodata as the fraud capital and hence the need to immediately remove them from power to ensure the 2nd July elections are free and fair.

MEC has also been accused of deliberately not conducting massive voters’ registration mobilization campaigns and locating registration centers at long distances with the purpose of discouraging voters from registering especially in the strongholds of the Opposition in order to give DPP an upper hand.

CFT had also demanded immediate resignation of NRB Director, open an investigation and prosecuted him according to law following his demonstrated incompetence by registering children in pursuit of a scheme jointly transacted with MEC to rig elections for DPP together with some chiefs, village elders, and parents in the Southern Region.

National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) has also been asked to do its job of civic educating the masses by looking at real issues that are affecting electoral process.

CFT has also asked MBC Television and radios cover Opposition party rallies and immediate arrest of cadets petrol bombed the UTM vehicle in Balaka by police.

CFT has demanded immediate audit of the electoral management system by IT specialists from all political parties contesting in this presidential election and all stakeholders concerned especially the electronic infrastructure of the voter registration and voting system as it can not be trusted for the management of credible elections as demonstrated in the Constitutional Court ruling.

On the road to July 2 Fresh Presidential Election CFT has also demanded the need to sign a non-violence treaty for all parties that will bind all contesting political parties to allow their opponents to campaign in their stronghold areas without any prohibition and refrain from causing on each other any form of violence or intimidation.
