MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed that Malawi is a peaceful nation, condemning the violent acts perpetrated by supporters of some political parties during election campaigns.

Speaking to a large crowd at Tembwe Trading Centre in the South-West region of Mchinji District on September 2, 2025, Chakwera emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable.

His statement comes in the wake of an incident where suspected DPP and AFORD thugs attacked MCP candidate Chikondi Chisale in Kasungu Central, stealing 102 balls and K17 million in cash from Chisale’s vehicle.

Chakwera expressed dismay at the growing trend of violence and intimidation by some political parties, stating that Malawi should not be known for hatred and paid violence.

He reassured the nation that the MCP is a party of peace and that its supporters will not retaliate or engage in any form of violence.

Chakwera therefore also took the opportunity to urge border communities to maintain peaceful relations with neighboring countries, such as Mozambique and Zambia.

In his address, Chakwera thanked businesspeople like Simbi Phiri for their commitment to national development.

He also emphasized the need to protect people with albinism, who have faced persecution for many years.

Deus Gumba Banda, MCP aspiring member of parliament for the area, thanked Chakwera for constructing modern houses for people with albinism and implementing various development projects in the region.

However, Gumba appealed to the government to provide food relief to his constituency, which is facing severe hunger.
