MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) over the weekend welcomed one of the renowned Malawi Congress Party (MCP) pillar in Karonga district, Suzgo Mwalwanda as well shadow councilor Kettie Gondwe.

Speaking during the party’s mega rally at Baka Community Ground, DPP Deputy Director of Research, Agabas Ingambako Mwang’onda described the development as a big sign that the community has lost trust with the current leadership.

According to Mwang’onda, it is not easy for a senior politician like Mwalwanda to dump a ruling party and joined the opposition.

He said the residents are still in love with DPP’s Presidential candidates Arthur Peter Mutharika because of mega projects he initiated in the district during his term.

Apart from that, Mwang’onda who is also DPP shadow MP for Karonga north constituency said the residents are after a leader who has vast experience to fix the country’s “paralyzed” economy in the name of Professor Peter Mutharika.

“DPP will sweep almost all seats in the district and I will make sure that our President, Prof. Mutharika got more votes in Karonga. What you’re seeing today is a big signal,” said Mwang’onda.

Mwang’onda mentioned the Karonga water supply project as well as the construction of Karonga-Songwe Border M1-Road as some of the big and unforgettable developments Mutharika has done in the district.

In his remarks Mwalwanda said his decision to join DPP followed the community’s demand and advice.

Mwalwanda who is also the shadow MP for Karonga Town assured the constituents that he is ready to represent DPP in the area.

Emanuel Nkhoma who is MCP District Chairperson for Karonga was not picking up our calls when contacted.
