LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the National Development Party (NDP) have announced an electoral alliance ahead of Malawi’s highly anticipated September 16 general elections.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lilongwe, DPP representative and senior party official, George Chaponda, said the alliance underscores their commitment to inclusive national development, with a special focus on the Northern Region.
“We believe in the potential of the North and are ready to continue development projects that were initiated during the previous DPP administration,”
“Under our regime, we attempted to build houses for the less privileged. With this new alliance and possibly including the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) we are confident these visions will be realized.”
Chaponda stated.
NDP President Frank Mwenifumbo echoed the sentiment, saying the coalition is a strategic move aimed at accelerating development and improving livelihoods across the country.
“Political parties are formed to serve the people, not just to win elections,”
“Our manifestos are aligned in many ways, which gives us a strong foundation to work together toward a common national goal. We want to make sure the welfare of Malawians is truly prioritized.”
said Mwenifumbo.
The alliance is expected to strengthen the opposition’s presence in the Northern Region, where both parties enjoy significant support.
As the countdown to the September 16 elections continues, the DPP-NDP pact signals a growing trend of political consolidation, with more alliances likely to emerge in the coming weeks
