By Edwin Mbewe
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The area 30 outfit Blue Eagles FC on Saturday made three airtel calls to Dedza Dynamos FC at Nankhaka Stadium.
The host scored through Micium Mhone at 16th minute, Richard Rapson who was voted man of the match scored the second goal at 59th minute after making beautiful runs in the wings and exchange of passes with Mhone and Gaddie Chirwa before providing an assist to Christopher Gototo who was celebrating his birthday at 74th minute.
Rose Zimba the center referee who officiated the match with zeal confidence started the match at exactly 14:30hours.Both the host and the visitors started the game on a low pace despite searching for early goals.
Eliah Kananji, Blue Eagles FC Coach, made several changes from his usual starting 11,as Captain Schumacher Kuwali was dropped on the bench, Franco Ndawa Jnr replaced injured Sankhani Mkandawire in the center back while Christopher Gototo was placed to partner Gaddie Chirwa in front.
The changes seemed to have materialized as they created more scoring chances though lacked composure and marksmanship as they ended misfiring.
Dedza Dynamos FC finished the first half without creating a clear cut chance, however after the second goal they woke up from their slumber and made several efforts to get equalizing goals but Brighton Munthali was steady guarding the sticks well for Eagles as he flew like an Eagle to catch the dangerous balls in the air.
Kananji made several substitutions to defend their lead,Captain Schumacher Kuwali replaced injured Gilbert Chirwa, Chifuniro Mpinganjira, Trouble Banda went in for Micium Mhone and Christopher Gototo at 77th minute before making the tactical one at 92nd minute, Kelvin Tsibwabwa,Arthur Moffat replaced Gaddie Chirwa and Paul Master.
His counterpart Dan Dzinkambani also made several changes to make sure they got a vital away goal at Nankhaka, he brought in Christopher Phiri, Ibrahim Sadik for Limbani Phiri and Victor Lungu and Mathews Salirana and Lameck Gamphani for Limbani Suwedi and Charles Chipala,Vincent Menyani replaced Clement Nyondo at 68th,75th and 87th respectively.
Micium Mhone received a yellow card for a foul on Charles Chipala, Schumacher Kuwali was booked for exchanging words with Rose Zimba.
Christopher Gototo was booked for obstructing Dedza Dynamos FC goalie Donnex Mwakasinga while Jacob Robert saw a yellow card for fouling Clement Nyondo.
But the changes didn’t work out for as they lacked confidence and their body languages were far away from using Airtel money.
Rose Zimba blew the whistle to end the match and it was confirmed that Blue Eagles FC have won their Airtel top 8 first leg at home against Dedza Dynamos FC.
In a post match interviews, Dan Dzinkambani acknowledged the defeat saying his boys did not play according to the instructions hence wasted the scoring chances.
He therefore showed some optimism to beat Blue Eagles FC at home Dedza in the return leg.
Dzinkambani was quick to mention that it is now an uphill to climb for them if they are to qualify to the semifinals.
Eliah Kananji hailed his charges for hammering Dedza Dynamos, citing they had to use home ground advantage at all cost as the visitors are unpredictable playing them at Dedza.
He added they aim to grab the championship after failing to win the TNM Super League which has been won by Nyasa Big Bullets FC.
The return leg between the two sides in Dedza will be played on December 3, 2022.
Blue Eagles FC last won the cup in 2018 after defeating Nyasa Big Bullets FC 1-0 at Bingu National Stadium with the lone goal scored by Stuart Mbunge.
All the three teams which have started at home in 2022 Airtel edition have won their games and not conceded any goal.
Nyasa Big Bullets FC humiliated Karonga United FC 7-0 at Kamuzu Stadium while Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC disconnected the internet at Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) 2-0.
So far 12 goals have been scored in three games.
