LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Netball team the Queens on Saturday 30th July, were again defeated 66-41 goals by England to start 2022 Birmingham City Commonwealth games on a sad note.

Queens trailed 19-9 in first quarter, despite starting strongly as they welcomed back former Manchester Thunder goal shooter Joyce Mvula and Mwai Kumwenda.

Malawi Queens falls

Came second quarter both teams were aggressive and scored clinical goals as Malawi seemed not to be shaken with England’s efforts, Joyce Mvula however led the team well in scoring those clinical goals with a better ball possession but the host defense was solid.

At the end of this quarter Malawi Queens were still behind by 35-20.

England started the second half on high note as they aimed at extending their lead as they made more interceptions through Laura Malcolm.

However as the quarter progressed Malawi Queens dominated the play as the exert pressure on team England and slowly reducing the arrears but the host contained the pressure and held their 48-33.

Last quarter both Malawi and England displayed beautiful performance though Queens misplaced more passes and foot faults which costed them the match.

At full time England lead Malawi 66-41.Malawi has never won against England in Commonwealth games.

Peace Chawinga Kalua hailed her girls for the beautiful game and display. She added they just need to polish in ball handling, turnovers.

“We need to improve in turn overs, passing but we will prepare well for our next game on Sunday”, Chawinga said.

Malawi Queens continue their Commonwealth games campaign against Northern Ireland on Sunday 31st July between 14:30-17:30 hours local time, 2022 which will be a must win if their chances to finish on good position are to be revived.
