LILONGWE-(MaraviPpost)-Former Malawi Vice President Michael Usi has firmly dismissed allegations suggesting that public funds went missing under his watch.

According to Usi, the accusations are baseless, and he has no knowledge of any wrongdoing involving government money.

During his time in office, no direct financial allocations were provided to the Vice President’s office, Usi clarified.

Fuel for official duties, he added, was purchased using personal resources rather than government funds.

Allowances for security personnel and other operational needs were also covered from his own pocket.

In Usi’s view, certain individuals are deliberately trying to tarnish his reputation by dragging his name into issues unrelated to him.

A call has been made to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Usi insisted that the ACB should conduct an independent and fearless inquiry, including arresting him if any wrongdoing is proven.

“I do not want to say much, but understand that I never received government money,” Usi stated.

Matters concerning the national budget, he added, did not involve the Vice President’s office during his tenure.

Investigators, Usi said, are free to question him extensively, even to the point of “investigating me up to my nostrils.”

His remarks follow a report in Parliament where the Minister of Finance indicated that the offices of the President, the Vice President, and the Office of the President and Cabinet had exhausted their allocated funds.

The former Vice President’s response appears aimed at clearing his name amid rising public debate.

Openness to any legal or institutional inquiry was emphasised as Usi distanced himself from the claims.

He concluded by affirming that there is nothing to hide and welcomed any process that would reveal the truth.
