LILONGWE, (MaraviPost): According to a popular posting on Malawi Government Facebook page, State House has noted with grave concern statements by propagandists on social media attempting to implicate and assassinate the good character of the First Lady, Madame Professor Gertrude Mutharika, using a story on a purported K7.8 billion energy contract by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA).
The Weekend Nation newspaper carried the initial story on the purported contract after thorough research and in keeping with its reputation for fair journalism. In its researched story, The Weekend Nation did not mention any person from State House whatsoever as the owner of the alleged company.
However, some ill-minded individuals twisted the story to implicate the First Lady to satisfy their malicious intentions.
The claims by the propagandists against the First Lady or the State House are literally unfounded.
State House would like to inform the general public that the First Lady or the State House has nothing to do with the said contract whatsoever.
Although the said contract did not and does not belong to the First Lady in anyway, His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika wishes that investigating authorities should get to the bottom of the matter regarding the alleged ghost contract.
The President therefore appeals to all Malawians to use the social media responsibly and avoid using the otherwise good platform to victimize or character assassinate innocent individuals
