BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi government through the ministry of energy has cancelled the recent fuel supply contact at National oil company of Malawi ( NOCMA).
Minister of energy Newton Kambala disclosed this during a press briefing on Saturday, November 28, in Blantyre.
Kambala stated that Tonse government has noted public concern on the situation at NOCMA whereby the executive management is not complete due suspension of Chief executive officer Gift Dula and the removal of Helen buluma as acting CEO by the board.
“As such the current round of tendering will be cancelled until credible management has been instituted by the board,” says the Minister.
Kambala further said that government decided to unbundle electricity supply commission of Malawi (ESCOM) inorder to attract private investors in generation.
At the moment seven Independent Power producers (IPPs) have signed power purchase agreement (PPA’s) and are now developing power plants to supply to National grid. According to the Minister.
On the other side Kambala disclosed that Electricity generation company (EGENCO) is developing Mpatamanga hydro power to the tune of US$1 million and will produce 350 mega Watts upon completion.
Further more Wovwe hydro power is expanding it’s capacity with an estimated 4.5 mega Watts.
