Malawi leader promotes judges who handled election case: 11 new High Court judges hired

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—The President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Lazarus Chakwera, in exercise of his powers conferred upon him by section 111 sub section (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, has elevated four judges to serve at the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal.

The judges include Healey Potani and Ivy Kamanga who were part of the panel that handled the historical election which ended in favour of the petitioners Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Klaus Chilima.

The other two promoted judges are Charles Mkandawire and John Katsala.

The president has also hired eleven new judges.

Agnes Patemba, who was serving as Registrar of the High Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal has been appointed as High Court judge together with His Honour Justus Asante Kishindo, Her Worship Violet Chipao, Her Honour Anneline Kanthambi, Her Honour Vikochi Chima, His Worship Mzonde Mvula and His Worship Simeon Mdeza.

The others are prominent lawyer Masauko Timothy Msungama, William Yakuwawa Msiska, Maureen Kondowe, Mandala Mambulasa, and Charlotte Wezi Malonda.

The appointments are with effect from 20th October 2020, according to a statement signed by Dr. Janet Banda, Deputy Secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet
