MWANZA-(MaraviPost): The Malawi Police in the border and Southern district of Mwanza this past week arrested five men for murdering an 80 year-old man for unknown reasons.

Mwanza Police Station Public Relations Officer, Edwin Kaunda confirmed to The Maravi Post on Saturday, May 7, the arrest of Mateyu Yonasi Chibweya 46 Ringitoni Jason 57, Josephy Levious 35, Sainani Bamusi 28 and Matchona Bamusi 34 for being suspected of assassinating Efati Woloman at Chatha village in the district.

According to Police Publicist Kaunda the five suspects during the night of April 2-3, 2016 are said to have murdered the old man at his house and dumped his body along Mwanza River following the general public tip off of the missing of the old man.

“After the matter of the missing of the old man was reported, Mwanza police instituted investigations which led to arrest of the first four suspects within the district while Bamusi who fled to Blantyre handed himself to Mwanza Police on May 4, after hearing that his fellow assailants were in the hands of the police.

“Therefore, the five suspects have since been remanded at Chichiri prison on the charge of Murder which contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code”, says Kaunda.

All these five murder suspects hail from Chatha village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Kanduku in the border and Southern district of Mwanza as investigation is still underway to establish their motive.
