The country’ renowned comedian Michael Usi aka “Manganya” has asked President Peter Mutharika to fire the entire cabinet ministers for failing to perform in a bid to walk out of social-economic challenges the nation is currently undergoing.
The call comes barely a week after the country’s two human rights watchdogs, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) and Centre for Development of People (Cedep) faulted President Mutharika of being silence on critical matters in the year 2015, saying the nation doubted whether was in control for state affairs.
The two watchdog bodies’ observation is a general review for 2015 on how President Mutharika manned the nation which according to them the year was characterized by lack of leadership on critical issues of national concern, a scenario that often raised more questions than answers as to whether President Mutharika was in control.
Comedian Usi who is also a deputy country director for ADRA Malawi made the call on the popular TIWUZEN ZOWONA program on Zodiak Broadcasting Corporation (ZBS) radio on Sunday, December 27, 2015 which The Maravi Post monitored.
Usi observed that the nation has lost direction due to cabinet ministers’ poor performance and failed to deliver Malawians expectation consequently citizens are dancing to the tunes of economic hardships due to poor governance perpetuated by the same ministers who
do not provide right insights to President Mutharika.
“Let me emphasize here that Malawi has lost direction. We don’t have leaders to move this nation forward. What we see is putting relatives, friends into positions. With such scenario can you expect such kind of people performing or giving good advice to the President?
“If Malawi is to walk out of this social-economic mess now, as temporary measure, the President must fire the entire cabinet ministers because have failed to perform and meet the needs of Malawians otherwise the nation will continue to suffer from the
current economic turmoil”, urges Usi.
On why the nation social-economic challenges are perennial after the dawn of Multiparty democracy in 1994, Usi accused the crop of leaderships Malawi have had arguing that only Dr. Hasting Kamuzu Banda (The Father and Founder of the nation) was an insightful leader whose legacy will remain toll in the country’s history.
He observed that current politicians do not have real business agenda for Malawians but rather serving their personal, family and friends’ interests urging the citizens start acting against impunities the current leadership was testifying.
“We, Malawians are fond of praising and worshiping our leaders for short developmental projects. You always see the entire Presidency taking the whole day just to open a 12 kilometer road instead of delegating a mayor or minister. How much money is spent on such an occasion? Are we really serious as a nation that we be clapping hands for that?
“Why should we praise a leader for distributing maize to citizens when after all it’s their duties to do that? We are a problem as a nation this is the reason we are producing bad leaders in this country because we condone impunities our politicians do to us. Good leaders are made and they come from good society.
“The nation still needs a Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda’ leadership style which has a long term vision not what we currently see. This is the reason we still see his infrastructure developments standing today across the nation not the current crop of Presidents who lack insights to move the nation forward from where the founder and the father of the nation (Dr. Banda) left”, slams Usi who denied of sharing the same ideologies of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
On the need for the country to have Access to Information Bill (ATI) passed into law, Manganya noted with concerns of the daily dallying of the current regime saying many in government were afraid of persecution due to various fiscal crimes currently committed even in the past.
Usi however trashed allegation that he was using ADRA through the populous TV drama TIKUFERANJI to score political mileage arguing that he has the muscle to do that without ADRA.
“Let me be clear here that, it’s me who is behind the birth of TIKUFERANJI TV series show with objective concept from sphere of Malawians lives. This is the reason we tackle any topic which affect Malawians at that particular time not necessary on HIV/AIDS as other
viewers see the program.
“Unfortunately, governing parties have seen the program as their enemy but when are in opposition they start liking it. No wonder the program has been banned from beaming on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBCTV) because other misguided individuals saw it as a threat not knowing that were punishing Malawians from watching educative life experience”, worried Usi.
Currently, Malawi is in deep crisis ranging from poor services delivery in public hospitals, schools to road networks infrastructures with unstoppable electricity blackouts, acute shortage of water supply while the currency is still depreciating whose impact are high
inflation and skyrocketing of prices for goods and services.
