BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As senior officials in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are trying to reposition themselves ahead of the the 2024 General Elections, the DPP Regional Governor for the South Charles Mchacha has joined the camp of the party’s Vice President, South, Kondwani Nankhumwa.
Nankhumwa, who also serves as the country’s Agriculture Minister is the only one who has openly come out to be canvassing for the top position of President for the party and eventual presidential candidate for DPP in 2024.
The joining of Mchacha to Nankhumwa’s camp has been described as a booster to the Agriculture Minister who desperately wants the top job.
As a sign that he is really committed to Nankhumwa, this week, the RG Mchacha has been seen on his mobile phone Whatsapp account displaying a picture of him and Nankhumwa.
On the TNM number that Mchacha regularly uses, he is seen standing to Nankhumwa at a function.
Apart from clearly showing support to Nankhumwa it is not known what has made him take this route. We were not able to establish how long Mchacha is going to put on display this picture of him and Nankhumwa.
Some political commentators have said that Mchacha may have deliberately done that in order to show the party authorities and the country leadership that he doesn’t bother.
They say the act is some sort of open defiance to let know the authorities that he fears no one.
According to our impeccable sources in the DPP National Governing Council, Mchacha has openly shown that he is not happy to be Deputy Transport Minister as he believes he deserves a full Ministerial portfolio.
It is not known how the authorities will react to this open defiance as shown by Charles Mchancha.
President Peter Mutharika is retiring in 2024 after serving as Malawi President for 10 years.
As a result, the potential candidates are already jostling it out underground although Kondwani Nankhumwa is the only one who has come out openly that he wants to rule Malawi in 2024.
