BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—It all started on July 14 when the Police arrested Norman Chisale, a personal bodyguard to former President Peter Mutharika, in connection to the importation of K5 billion worth of cement duty free using former President Peter Mutharika’s Taxpayer Identification Number.

Sadly, at the very same time Chisale’s wife, Evalista, who was together with 12 police officers charged with murder on Buleya Lule’s death, was at Maula Prison before transferred to Dedza Prison on security reasons.

It was, indeed, psychological and mental torture of the highest order for the children and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Chisale.

Under such circumstances, Chisale, who is perceived as a villain by the public, exhibited rare faith in the Most High God by holding the Christian Bible during all his court hearings.

I don’t know the final spiritual state of Norman Chisale, so I can’t say with certainty why he chose to do that, but something significant and so powerful happened to him on Friday, October 2, 2020.

After several attempts to secure bail and an attempt to get injunction against further arrests by Malawi Police Services (MPS), On Friday the Supreme Court of Appeal ordered an unconditional release of Chisale following a lawsuit by his lawyers against the Attorney General  for unlawful custody.

The court said Chisale was in illegal detention by the police as he was already on bail.

When he failed to secure bail during the previous attempts with the Bible in his hands, the public rebuked him and made funny of his faith, little did they know that the Bible he was holding has power.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart,” Hebrews 4:12.

Now Chisale is with his family after spending more than two months in police custody.

He is a suspect but he was treated as a convict but the power of word of the Holy Book he was holding spoke to the authorities to execute justice and fairness and the Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Lovemore Chikopa just did as it is required by the rule of law, which is premised on principles of natural justice.

Chisale was arrested and formally charged in July with murder pertaining to the killing of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) director of corporate affairs Issa Njauju.

Before the murder charge, he was arrested twice on charges of assault which took place in Blantyre and fraud and money laundering in relation to the importation of K5 billion worth of cement duty free using Mutharika’s Taxpayer Identification Number.
