BLANTYRE (MaraPost)–Police in Malawi’s eastern district of Balaka are keeping in custody a 26 year-old man for allegedly killing his own mother.
The suspect, identified as Jawadu Mzito and has a “history of psychiatric problems”, killed his mother last Friday after quarrying over a plastic bucket, according to Balaka Police spokesperson Joseph Sauka.
“The deceased, Hawa Ajaru Mzito, took the suspect’s plastic bucket to draw water, but this did not please her son who resorted to beating and kicking her.
“The deceased fell on the ground and died on spot,” explained Sauka.
Postmortem conducted at Balaka district hospital revealed that the 44 year-old woman died due to internal bleeding.
“The suspect will be taken to court before being referred to a Mental Hospital for treatment,” he added.
Mzito hails from Mitochi village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in the district.
In another development, a 73 year-old man was found dead on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Balaka Town Council Resthouse.
The deceased, Davison Zakazaka, was working for Lloyds Security Services and was assigned to guard the Resthouse.
Postmortem carried at Balaka district hospital showed that he died due to an asthma attack.
