The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr Lazarus Chakwera who is also the leader of the house in the Parliament was attacked by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for attending government function of the official opening of the branch of the Reserve Bank of Malawi in the North.
The attack came from DPP Secretary General Ecklen Kudontoni during the party’s rally at Chibavi ground after the official opening of the Reserve Bank branch.
Kudontoni wondered why the MCP leader attended the function regardless of being detractor to DPP led government.
“We wonder why someone who described the President speech of national address in the Parliament on Monday as empty is coming here,” said Kudontoni.
“I mean the person who deserted his top position in the Church and join politics, I know that he is still here (Mzuzu) in town and I want him to know that DPP is the future of this country,” he added.
In his remarks, DPP regional governor for the north Keneth Sanga said his party has done a lot of developments in the province.
“Some people from the oppositions are preaching that DPP has done nothing to the north but what I can tell you is that this is the only party that has put the region on the map,” charged Sanga.
“For instance, the Njakwa road, Nkhata-bay hospital, Karonga stadium and the Reserve Bank branch among the others while in government top position we also have a good number of people from the region,” added Sanga.
During the day, President Mutharika welcomed almost four councilors and other officials of the former ruling People Party as well as the Secretary General for UMOZI party into the DPP.
