The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) headed by Jane Ansah has rebuffed Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) application to have amendment on the presidential ballot paper LOGO.

The Party made the application to MEC to let the party use a fusion of MCP and UTM symbols to reflect the UTM, MCP and other party’s electoral alliance.

But MEC has rejected the application on grounds that MCP did not notify the registrar of political parties on any changes on symbols to be used on ballot paper in the fourth coming presidential election.

Patricia Kaliati cum Akweni

Patricia Kaliati cum Akweni had already started promising supporters about the new symbol that it was going to appear on the ballot however it has been rebuffed by MEC.

It was alleged in their campaign that there will be two symbols of UTM And MCP that is a black cock and a candle. Malawians will no longer be fooled.

It is now clear that Saulos chilima will never appear on ballot even its name of a party as UTM will not be there and even its symbol will not be there.

In a democratic dispensation we need to avoid such lies. who want to capitalize the ignorance of people to vote for them? Remember voting is our rights and should not be infringed by lying politicians. Let us tell people our manifesto other than lies.

MEC argues that MCP is registered as a party and that the symbols are regulated by Parliamentary and Presidential Elections Act of 2018 whereas the new symbol is not.
