Malawians are raising a lot of questions and need answers to the mysterious death of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director of Corporate Services Issa Njauju whose body was found two days after he had gone missing in the capital Lilongwe.
The body of Issa Njauju was found near the Malawi statehouse in Lilongwe. The body was found by sand miners. Civil society icons like Billy Mayaya and many Malawians are raising questions that need answers.
Many people see similarities to the death of Chasowa who died On Saturday, September 24, 2011, Chasowa was found dead at the Polytechnic campus with a deep cut on his head and lying in a pool of his own blood. Malawi Police then without any supporting evidence ruled his death a suicide, even though facts pointed to murder. Police said that Chasowa jumped from a five-story building, A conclusion which was clearly disapproved by evidence. To date no one has been brought to Justice for the murder of Chasowa.
The Malawi Government reacting to social media stories that are suggesting that Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director of Corporate Services Issa Njauju was murdered because of a case he was working on was close to revealing who was responsible for MK92 Billion plundering in the DPP led government, through Foreign Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa said the following:
“Government expresses heartfelt concern and condemns the brutal and cowardly murder of Mr Issa Njauju who at the time of his untimely death was Director of the Corporate Affairs responsible for general administration, finance and human resource at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The Malawi Police Service has opened investigations into this tragic death. Government, and all law abiding citizens, will therefore wait for the findings of these professional investigations to take an informed stand on the matter.
To this effect, the general public is being asked to refrain from making wild speculations which are deeply hurting the bereaved family and colleagues at the ACB who have lost a dear friend, husband and father. Such a painful and tragic death must not be a treated as a source of propaganda by anyone.
The Malawi Police Service is working around the clock to find the real truth of the matter. Therefore, the public is hereby being assured that perpetrators of this heinous act will be found and be brought to book. The criminals can run, but not hide.
Meanwhile, Government is appealing to the general public to assist the Police with relevant information that may lead to the apprehension of the criminals.”
Unfortunately for President Mutharika, his foreign Minister who is known as a party hack is not a credible person on this matter. Kondwani Nankhumwa lost a lot people with the exception of DPP diehards when he accused Joyce Banda of killing Bingu WA Mutharika without a shred of evidence.
Malawiansi do not believe that the death of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director of Corporate Services Issa Njauju was just random due to the increased insecurity in the country. The rumors on social media that he was killed because of the work he was doing, investigating corruption in the current DPP government are gaining momentum.
The Press release from ACB declaring that Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director of Corporate Services Issa Njauju was just responsible for HR duties did not assure anyone. In fact they made people more suspicious.
President Mutharika need to address the nation to assure us what steps his police are taking to get to the bottom of this matter. His silence at the moment just leads to more suspicions and sending Kondwani Nankhumwa to be at the forefront of this just does not assure anyone
.
