LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema recently officiated the joint 69th Annual Conference of the Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) and the 22nd General Assembly of AMICAALL, held at Ciela Resort in Chongwe District.

The conference theme, “Innovative Municipal Financing and Service Delivery: Pathways for Sustainable Growth and Inclusive Development”, underscores the government’s commitment to addressing persistent challenges in financing and service delivery through sustainable and inclusive solutions.

In his address, President Hichilema reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fiscal decentralization, emphasizing the importance of strengthening local authorities through tailored capacity-building programs.

This approach aims to foster accountability at all levels, ensuring that local governance truly serves the people and drives inclusive growth and development.

President Hichilema stressed the need to uphold a culture of integrity, service, and community before self, calling on all stakeholders to continue fighting corruption and promoting transparency.

“Together, we must continue fighting corruption, promoting transparency, and ensuring that local governance truly serves the people, driving inclusive growth and development for all,” he declared.

This year’s conference is a testament to President Hichilema’s administration prioritizing local governance and decentralization.

In previous addresses, the President has highlighted the critical role local authorities play in achieving inclusive growth and development, emphasizing the need for community participation in decision-making processes.

The joint conference with AMICAALL, an organization focused on community action against AIDS at the local level, further demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing pressing social issues.

By bringing together local authorities and stakeholders, the conference provides a platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and innovative solutions to municipal financing and service delivery challenges.

President Hichilema’s leadership on this issue is consistent with his broader vision for Zambia’s development.

In his statement to the United Nations General Assembly, he emphasized the importance of partnerships and integration in addressing global challenges, including pandemics, climate change, and economic inequality.

As Zambia continues to navigate its development path, the outcomes of this conference are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s approach to municipal financing and service delivery.

By prioritizing innovative solutions, accountability, and transparency, President Hichilema’s administration aims to drive sustainable growth and inclusive development, ultimately improving the lives of all Zambians.

The conference also highlights the importance of collaboration between local authorities, development partners, and the private sector. As President Hichilema noted in previous remarks, such partnerships are vital in supporting local authorities’ response to disasters and pandemics, like COVID-19.

The joint 69th Annual Conference of LGAZ and the 22nd General Assembly of AMICAALL marks a significant milestone in Zambia’s pursuit of sustainable development.

Under President Hichilema’s leadership, the government remains committed to fiscal decentralization, innovative municipal financing, and service delivery solutions that prioritize the needs of all Zambians.
