LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has unveiled Premier Bet Malawi as its partner during a fundraising dinner and dance held in the capital Lilongwe.

This partnership will see Premier Bet Malawi injecting MK260 million into Malawi’s elite league.

Each of the sixteen (16) Super League teams will receive MK10 million.

Additionally, a portion of the funds will be allocated for branding the kits of other teams and for individual awards such as Premier Bet Coach of the Month, Player of the Month, Team of the Month, and Journalist of the Month.

Thompson Mpinganjira, President of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Team, who was the guest of honor at the event, commended the betting company for their gesture, stating that it aligns with the Revive, Reform, and Rebrand slogan.

He emphasized the importance of financial support for the sustainability and growth of the Super League of Malawi.

Mpinganjira urged other companies and the corporate world to join hands in supporting sports, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability within SULOM to attract more sponsors.

Mpinganjira has since contributed MK10 million towards the fundraising initiative which its aim is to help the super league teams.

Colonel Gilbert Mittawa, President of SULOM, assured that the support received from various stakeholders and the corporate world would be utilized for its intended purpose.

He highlighted the dynamic nature of modern football, stressing the need for more resources to adopt technologies, techniques, and proper diets for coaches and players.

Mittawa appealed to the corporate world to come forward and support the sport, promising accountability and visibility in return.

During the event, SULOM unveiled its rebranded logo and honored legend Lameck Botha for scoring the first goal in Malawi’s Super League while playing for MITCO.

Chiukepo Msowoya and Gastin Simkonda were also recognized as the all-time top goal scorers in the league.

The 2024-2025 football season in Malawi commenced with the Charity Shield, where FCB Nyasa Big Bullets emerged victorious over Silver Strikers with a 7-6 win on post-match penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Super League games will kick off next weekend.

The initiative aims to uplift and reward teams, players, and coaches for their exceptional performance.

The campaign includes distributing MK160 million among 16 teams, with each team receiving MK10 million. Additionally, MK20 million is allocated for uniforms branded with the campaign’s name.

To further incentivize excellence, MK1.8 million is set aside monthly for outstanding players earning MK200,000 each, while the same amount goes to top coaches who also earn MK200,000 monthly.

Moreover, a significant portion of MK9.9 million is earmarked for the best-performing team each month, where each team stands to gain MK1.1 million.

Furthermore, MK900,000 is dedicated to media coverage, with an additional MK100,000 per month going to the best sports journalist covering the games.

This initiative, guided by SULOM regulations, not only promises financial rewards but also seeks to enhance competitiveness and talent development within the Super League, making it a landmark season for all involved.
