UTM explores alliance options for 2025 elections

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-The United Transformation Movement (UTM) says is in talks with other political parties to form an alliance ahead of the September 16, 2025, general election.

Speaking during whistle-stop tours in Mangochi on Wednesday,the UTM president Dalitso Kabambe stated that the party is open to partnering with like-minded groups that prioritize serving Malawians’ interests.

He mphasized the need for strategic alliances to achieve the 50+1 majority threshold, citing the challenges of winning outright under the current electoral system.

Kabambe said the party is evaluating potential partners and holding consultations.

The former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM ) Governor also focused on infrastructure development, pledging to construct the 120-kilometer Mangochi-Makanjira Road.

He highlighted the road’s importance for boosting tourism, trade, mining, and agriculture in the region.

UTM was founded in 2018 by the late Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.
