BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s government is putting Airtel Malawi under the microscope following widespread complaints about call drops and internet disruptions.

Secretary for Information and Communications Technology, Harold Msusa, and MACRA Acting Director General Mayamiko Mkoloma met with Airtel Malawi executives to address these pressing issues.

The meeting aimed to understand the root causes of these problems and explore solutions.

Msusa emphasized the need for collaboration, stating, “We thought it wise to meet the regulator and mobile operators to understand why these issues are occurring and what they’re doing to resolve them”.

Airtel Malawi faces challenges like vandalism of fiber cables, network congestion, and technical issues.

The company is working to boost network reliability by acquiring additional capacity for international data links and partnering with local fiber providers like ESCOM.

The government is committed to improving digital infrastructure and ensuring quality services.

Airtel Malawi has pledged continued investment, with plans to roll out 19 new network sites and partner with Starlink Lilongwe Ltd to enhance connectivity in underserved areas.
