First Lady Gertrude Mutharika dubs at Architecture ‘ Wants Beautiful Road Infrastructure’ in Malawi

Malawi First Lady Dr Gertrude Mutharika Unveils Round-about Project which calls for Transformation of Road Infrastructure to Add Beauty to Cities.

Malawi First Lady, Dr Gertrude Mutharika, on Sunday unveiled to the nation two roundabout projects which have been restructured to bring an added dimension of beauty to Lilongwe’s City Centre.

At the function Dr. Gertrude Mutharika reiterated that with small contributions towards beauty of surroundings Malawi can be wholly transformed in no time.

“As citizens, let us all take part by making small contributions to transform Malawi. I believe through our small contributions this nation will move to greater heights. The beauty that will come out from these roundabouts will surely transform our cities and our beautiful country. I realize that as we are talking about sanitation, we cannot take out the general outlook of the structures and that includes our roads,” she said.

The two roundabouts under reconstruction are on the Presidential drive; one at Parliament and the other at Capital Hotel.

Madame Mutharika noted that projects like these have been long overdue in Malawi putting in mind that other countries are already steps ahead in remodeling their road infrastructure so that beauty takes centre stage when construction of any kind takes place.

“I have had the privilege of traveling outside Malawi and have always admired how beautiful cities in other countries look, mainly when you come to such places like roundabouts. I have been asking myself, “Can’t we do the same in Malawi?” She added: “I took that challenge to say “we can do it!!” Yes, we can.”

On issues of climate change Dr. Mutharika asked Malawians to become cautious and prudent when they handle their surroundings and to always use water resources sparingly.

She advised against spending of a lot of water on chores like watering flowers noting that climate change has forced water table to go down.
