BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—Malawi Under-20 conceded a goal to Zambia’s star Larry Bwalya in the 54th minute to stumble to 3-1 loss on aggregate in Lusaka on Saturday, dealing with a major blow to their hopes of qualifying for the 2015 CAF Youth Championship finals in Dakar, Senegal next year.

Having lost 2-1 at home in the first leg two weeks ago, the Under 20 side led by Ernest Mtawali needed to beat the Zambia 2-0 to book a ticket for the finals but the midfielder Bwalya’s lone goal saw the Young Chipolopolo boys qualify for the tournament for the first time since 2007.

The two sides went scoreless into the break at Nkoloma Stadium but Zambia did have the ball in the back of the net in the 24th minute through a disallowed goal from Charles Zulu.

Zulu however turned to be an engineer for Bwalya’s goal in the 53rd minute to ensure Zambia’s ticket to the finals.

The 2015 African U-20 Championship will be the 20th edition of the football tournament for under-20 players. The semifinalists will participate in 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
